Curly, coily and afro hair

Textured hair barber for curly, coily and afro hair in South-West Sydney

Clipper Culture is a textured hair barber in South-West Sydney, cutting curly, coily and afro hair in a private studio in Glen Alpine. There is no separate textured hair price: you book the $35 Men's Standard Haircut or the $40 Men's Fade, depending on the cut you want.

What a curly hair barber looks at first

Textured hair behaves differently from straight hair, and a good textured hair barber accounts for it. Curl pattern, density and the direction your hair grows all change how a shape sits and how it grows out. Shrinkage matters too: tightly curled hair looks much shorter when dry than when stretched, so length is judged with that in mind. Talking through how you wear your hair, picked out, twisted or kept short, sets the plan before the cut starts.

Afro hair barber near Campbelltown: tapers, fades and line ups

Popular styles for afro and coily hair are all on the standard menu. A taper or skin fade gives clean sides while the top keeps its volume. A high-top keeps height on top with tight sides. A line up sharpens the hairline at the forehead, temples and neck, which frames every one of these cuts.

Real textured cuts from the chair

Each photo here was taken in the Glen Alpine studio after a real cut:

  • A taper with cornrow braids on top.
  • A high-top with a sharp line up.
  • A textured burst fade.
  • A taper.

A barber for 4c hair and tight coils

4c is the tightest coil pattern in the hair typing system most people use, with dense, tight coils and the most shrinkage of any type. Tapers, fades and line ups all work on 4c hair.

Perms, braiding and chemical services

Perms are not offered at Clipper Culture, and there is no colouring or chemical service on the menu. Braiding is not offered either. Every service here is cutting and shaving. If you were thinking about a perm to add curl, the post on barbers and perms looks at cut-based alternatives.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Should I bring a photo of the style I want?

Yes, a photo is the quickest way to show the shape, height and fade you are after, especially with textured hair where the same name can mean different results. Pick a photo of hair with a similar curl pattern to yours. The guide on asking for a haircut covers the terms worth knowing.

Can my son book a cut for his curly hair?

Yes. Children with curly, coily or afro hair book the Kids cut at $30, and high school students can book the High School Fade at $35. The barber, Jonah Ataalla, holds an active, verified Working With Children Check. Details are on the kids haircuts page.

Can I add a beard line up to a textured cut?

Yes. The $15 Beard Trim and Line Up can go on top of any cut, so the edges of the beard can be shaped to match the line up on your hairline. Choose it as an add-on on the booking page, or read more on the beard trim page before you book.
