Cut throat shave in Glen Alpine, near Campbelltown

For $10, a cut throat shave adds a hot towel and a straight razor finish to any cut or beard service, or stands as a booking of its own. Clients from Campbelltown and the wider Macarthur region book it at Clipper Culture's private Glen Alpine studio.

What happens in a hot towel shave

A traditional shave starts with a hot towel laid over the beard area to warm the skin and soften the hair. Lather goes on next, then the razor works across the face in short, controlled strokes, and the skin is finished off once the hair is gone. What to expect at each stage is set out in the guide to the traditional shave.

Straight razor shave or clippers?

Clippers and trimmers always leave a little stubble, because the blade sits slightly above the skin. A straight razor removes hair at the surface, so a straight razor shave gives the closest, smoothest finish. It is also the tool of choice for crisp edges, which is why it suits the neckline after a cut or the cheek line after a beard trim.

A cut throat shave with your cut

A cut throat shave works as an add-on to the rest of the menu, at standard prices:

Tool hygiene

A razor works right at the skin, so it is reasonable to ask how tools are looked after. Every cut throat shave at Clipper Culture uses a fresh disposable blade in the straight razor. The hygiene standards page describes how Clipper Culture handles its tools, alongside the NSW Health guidance.

Skin after a shave

Healthdirect notes that ingrown hairs are more likely after shaving and if your hair is very curly or coarse, and lists shaving in the direction the hair grows and moisturising afterwards among the ways you might prevent them. If an ingrown hair does not go away or keeps bothering you, Healthdirect advises seeing your doctor. For day-to-day care, the guide to razor bump aftercare covers the first few days after a close shave.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I book a head shave?

Yes, head shaves are offered at Clipper Culture. A head shave is not listed on the online menu and no price is published for it, so call the studio on 0415 990 995 to book one. The Cut Throat Shave you can book online is the face and neck service.

Can I add a shave to a mobile booking?

Yes, at its menu price. Mobile appointments are available on request by calling the studio, with a limited number each week. A $40 call-out fee is added to mobile bookings under $120, while bookings of $120 or more within Campbelltown, Camden and surrounding suburbs have no call-out fee. See the mobile barber page for the details.

What should I tell the barber about my skin?

Mention anything that affects how your skin reacts to shaving, such as razor bumps, ingrown hairs or irritation after past shaves, before the razor comes out. If an ingrown hair is still healing, Healthdirect says it may help to stop shaving until the skin heals, so moving the shave to a later booking can make sense.
